According to CNBC, in 2018, 87.5 million people passed through LAX, making it the nation’s second-busiest airport behind Atlanta and the fourth busiest in the world.

Los Angeles International Airport, most commonly abbreviated as LAX, is located in Westchester near LA’s beach communities. It is 16 miles from Downtown LA. The location makes it one of the top international destinations, especially from Asia and the Pacific.

This busy airport offers 737 daily nonstop flights to 100 domestic cities as well as 1,386 weekly nonstop flights to 88 cities in 44 countries.

It is clear that LAX never sleeps, so frequent travelers need to know the schedule from the back of their hands to avoid rush hours so that they can get to their flight on time.

When do check-in counters open?

First of all, you should know that LAX is open 24 hours. However, the check-in counters aren’t always open.

The federal passenger security screening and airline check-in counters open anywhere between 4 a.m. to 5 a.m, depending on when the last flight is for that day. It’s essential to come in three hours before your flight to get an ample amount of time to stand in line, check-in baggage, go through security, and find the proper gate.

When do check-in counters close?

The check-in counter closes between 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Pacific Time, but it depends on the flight schedules for each terminal. Here are the general opening and closing times, as of right now.

Terminal 1    4:00 am – 11:00 pm

Terminal 2    4:30 am – 2:00 am

Terminal 3    4:15 am – 1:00 am

Terminal 4    4:00 am – 1:00 am

Terminal 5    4:00 am – 1:30 am

Terminal 6    4:30 am – 1:30 am

Terminal 7    4:00 am – 12:00 am

TBIT North    8:00 am – 1:00 am

TBIT South    6:00 am – 1:00 am

How long are terminals open for?

The terminals are open on a 24-hour basis. A two-level, U-shaped roadway connects the nine terminals in the airport. Most terminal connections require passengers to exit security, then use a shuttle to get to the other terminal, then redo the security process again. Some LAX terminals offer airside connections, which allow connecting passengers to access other terminals without going through security, hence saving them some time.

Keep your car secure during your travels with Airport Spectrum LAX Parking.

When are restaurants open?

With over 31 dining selections, and 17 of them are native to Los Angeles, it’s evident that there is a wide range of options to choose from. Keep in mind that the restaurant opening schedule depends on the terminal that they are located in, that means travelers will have to know the hours of each terminal.

In general, most breakfast eateries open around 6am. Most restaurants close around midnight. Some fast food options are open longer, like Einstein Bagels, which is open from 3:30AM to 8:00PM, and Starbucks, which is open from 4:30AM to 12:00AM.

When are currency exchange spots open?

ICE Currency Exchange kiosks can be found in the Departure Level of all the terminals. The kiosks are also located in the  Arrival Level of Terminals 2, 5, 6, and Tom Bradley International Terminal. The hours of operation vary according to the terminal. Fortunately, we have the schedule for hours of operation listed above, and currency kiosks are usually open at the same times.

When is public transportation open?

There is a wide array of transportation options available, such as buses, shuttle, light rail, taxi, rideshare services, and rental cars.

The shuttle bus connects the airport with the Metro Green Line light rail, and it transport passengers between airline terminals.  They provide frequent non-stop transportation between LAX and Union Station as well as other locations throughout the city.

The shuttle bus opens around 12:30 a.m and runs on an hourly basis between 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. It also runs every 20 minutes between 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during the weekdays.

During the weekends, the buses run every 30 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and hourly between 1 a.m. to 5 a.m

Where is LAX?

First, you need to know where LAX is in relation to Disneyland. Although it is located in west Los Angeles, LAX is one of the closest US airports to the city’s downtown area. This means the airport directly serves traffic coming into the city, which is why it has been described as one of the busiest airports in the world.

New arrivals will want to plan out their trip to maximize travel time, account for any errors, and to get the most out of the city. Be prepared for any delays or stops that could hold up new travelers.

Tourists are eager to make the trip before the traffic starts to increase. It’s vital to time the arrival of the flight and understand the city to dodge traffic. However, the bottom line is that traffic may be inevitable.

CA-91 is the major highway that will connect travelers along the way. Disneyland is in Anaheim, just under 35 miles east of LAX.

Travel Options

  1. By Car
Alt Text: An uber driver drives in traffic

Traveling by car is the most popular choice for guests. That gives them the freedom to choose where and when they want to go. Unfortunately, the issue is that they might get lost along the way.

New arrivals might feel lost in the big city. Plus, travelers might be too tired to drive after a long flight, and it’s hard to find parking at Disneyland. If guests plan on staying at the Disneyland Hotel or anywhere else in that area, finding a parking spot in that area might be expensive.

The car does have the advantage of quick and easy service. New guests can arrive at LAX and then drive to Disneyland at any time. That could give them the chance to drive before the traffic starts up again. However, the downside is that they would experience significant traffic jams, especially during the morning rush hour. They might not be used to navigating the streets and highways in Los Angeles.

  1. By Bus
Source Alt Text: a bus drives the city

Many bus lines are available in the city of Los Angeles. The most efficient bus lines start at LAX, since it is a big mecca for tourism around the city.

It’s vital to research the popular bus lines that operate around LA. The best thing to do is take the C Green Line from Avation / LAX Station to Norwalk Station, then walk to Norwalk Station 30016. From here, take the 460 to Disneyland Park.

Large groups are going to benefit from taking the bus lines in the city. Convenient access to points of interest are often included in the trip. It’s essential to place a ticket order well in advance for an upcoming tour group to Disneyland.

Then, check to make sure that the bus offers a relatively straight route. This strategy helps to avoid delays and problems for any large group of travelers.

Families can request the service and decide where they want to go. Rideshare options can be explained to the newly arrived tourists.

Try to research the paths and available services ahead of time. This option can save some headaches and prevent travel problems for new tourists traveling to the LA area.

  1. By Shuttle

LAX and some companies offer some incredible shuttle travel options to guests, taking them right from LAX to Disneyland. Newly arrived families can make arrangements to travel by shuttle when they arrive. The ticket price can be increased with the addition of a shuttle tour.

This option will make the trip smoother and more efficient, especially during busy rush hours in the city.

Where To Park Your Car

Busy tourists will naturally worry about where to park their cars if they opt to take a bus, rideshare, or shuttle. Secure long term parking is available near LAX.

Cars and shuttles are always leaving LAX airport for Disneyland during the day. Take note of the travel times when making any arrangements. The tourists can make their way through the city by themselves, which gives them some freedom. However, there’s always the possibility of getting lost for newcomers.

Tourists can reduce that possibility with some proper preliminary research. New travelers can arrive at Disneyland without a hassle with the appropriate guidance, strategy, and advice.

After all, Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, so it’s essential to make sure it goes the same way with the travel plans.

Most people hire some sort of taxi or ride-share service from the airport because they don’t know where to park their own vehicles. Lyft and Uber are some of the most popular ride-share companies. Finding the Uber and Lyft pickup spot at the airport was already crowded and difficult, but the recent relocation of this area has made it even worse.

At LAX, it is difficult to reach ride-share pick-up zones and can take a long time to get linked with a driver. Our goal at Airport Spectrum Parking LAX is to help travelers finalize simple transportation arrangements to and from the airport. With this in mind, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Lyft pickup and alternatives that will make traveling easier.

Where is the pickup location?

The Lyft pickup spot is located at the intersection of Sepulveda Blvd. and Century Blvd., which is actually quite a distance from the airport. In order to reach your Lyft, you’ll have to take a shuttle bus over to this area before calling your ride. After that, you’ll have to wait some more before it arrives. With rideshares meant to offer the benefit of convenience, it’s clear that this might not be the best option for weary travelers.

Challenges with Uber and Lyft Pick-Up at LAX

1. No Parking for Lyft Cars

For security reasons, Lyft vehicles cannot park near the airport. When a traveler books a ride on the Lyft car, the driver will bring their vehicle to the airport to pick up the passenger, but will have to wait in a “Ride-Sharing” pick up line at the designated location.

2. Passengers Will Have to Move to Another Terminal to find a Ride Sharing Shuttle

At LAX, the rideshare process is inconvenient and time-consuming. Larger airports have a number of terminals that allow Lyft and Uber, and the passenger would just need to specify which terminal. But at LAX, there is a specific ride-share protocol that requires shuttling to the right location only for you to have to wait longer.

3. Lyft Cars Can’t Stop Near The Airport For A Long Time

Vehicles cannot halt for a long time near the airport due to security reasons. They can only drop off or pick up their passengers and leave immediately. In some cases, the pickup point for the passengers leaving the airport is located close to the hourly parking garage, which is a long distance away from the airport.

The passenger has to carry his or her luggage to the pickup point, which is very tedious and time-consuming. Moving from the airport to the pickup point is hectic for passengers with a lot of heavy luggage or small children.

4. The Lyft Service Might Be Late or Can’t Make It

One of the reasons why people travel by air is that they wish to save time. However, they often waste a lot of time getting a Lyft or Uber from the airport to their destination.

This is often due to traffic jams and pick-up confusion. Therefore, the Lyft vehicle that the passenger has booked might not reach the airport at the scheduled time.

Therefore, the passenger would have to wait at the pickup point for a long time until the vehicle arrives. This can be frustrating for the traveler, especially if they have an important meeting or appointment scheduled.

5. Crowded Pickup Point

In recent months, ride-sharing apps like Lyft and Uber have funneled airport passengers to a conglomerate pick-up point east of Terminal One. Getting there can be a two or three step process before you even step foot in your hired vehicle.

In addition, Most airlines will schedule their flight arrivals during specific periods that are  most convenient for travelers. However, this causes a large number of travelers to arrive at the airport at the same time, crowding the pick up point.

Related: Frequently Asked Questions About Parking Near LAX

6. Cancelled Lyft Service

The delay in pick up at the airport may vary depending on the arrival time of the flight. During peak times at larger airports, the delay in arrival may be more than thirty minutes at the airport.

Passengers who have traveled long distances may be tired, and this additional delay can be frustrating. The traveler will have to book a vehicle again and waste more time waiting. Keep in mind that pick-ups at the airport are usually canceled by Lyft drivers as opposed to passengers.

7. Identifying Your Driver

Source Alt Text: A busy road with different kinds of cars and taxis

Even after the vehicle arrives at the pickup point, the traveler will usually face a problem in identifying the car which they have booked. If the pickup point is crowded, it is difficult for all the passengers to find their driver in the large parking lot.

The Lyft car can usually wait for only a short period at the pick up point until the passenger identifies the vehicle and contacts the driver.

Another challenge to consider is that Lyft allows the driver to cancel the ride for a “no show” if the traveler does not turn up within one and a half minutes. If the traveler cannot identify the vehicle after it has arrived at the pickup point, then there is an increased possibility that the driver may cancel the ride.

In this case, the traveler will have to book another car and waste more time waiting for the vehicle to arrive. There is also a chance that some other travelers at the pickup point can get into the wrong scheduled Lyft vehicle.

This can create a problem for the person who has booked the car, when they realize another person has taken their ride. When this happens, the passenger will have to book another vehicle or make alternate arrangements for reaching his or her destination.

8. Solutions for Airport Pickup

Instead of booking an Uber or Lyft, some travelers will find that it is better to use an airport parking facility nearby. For example, Airport Spectrum Parking has a secure parking facility that passengers can use to park their cars. Once they get back from their destination, they will not have to rely on Lyft. Instead, they can take the free shuttle to Airport Spectrum to pick up their vehicle, and they are good to go.

In other cities, the traveler can ask the client or their company to make arrangements to pick them up from the airport. This solution will save a lot of time, stress, and some money. Passengers can also ask a family member or friend to pick them up from the airport.

Conclusion

Even though Lyft is convenient and economical, rideshare services at the airport (especially LAX) often turn out to be more trouble than they are worth.

Luckily, there are better alternatives, such as Airport Spectrum Parking and shuttle services. Not only do we keep your car safe until you return from your trip, we offer free 24/7 shuttle services to and from the airport. With Airport Spectrum Parking, you can keep your vehicle safe while you’re on your trip. You can get yourself to Century Blvd. safely, and we’ll take you to LAX from there.

Any traveler who is planning to fly out of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) should consider the time it takes to check-in at the airport, get the boarding passes, check-in luggage, and pass through security.

In addition to that, the traveler may have to wait for some time before they arrive at their gate. The time required to pass through the different checkpoints at the airport is fairly unpredictable. It can be effortless and quick on some occasions, while on other days, it can take a long time.

Since a flight ticket is relatively expensive, passengers want to avoid missing their flight by all means possible. This can be challenging without proper planning; you might end up reaching the airport late because you did not estimate the time it requires to get through each step accurately.

On the other hand, many of the passengers traveling have a busy schedule, and they cannot afford to reach the airport three hours before the scheduled departure to wait for their flight. With that in mind, passengers would like to find out how early they should arrive at LAX so that they do not miss a flight or waste a lot of time waiting at the airport.

At Airport Spectrum Parking, we know how crowded the airport and nearby streets get because of our 24/7 shuttle service to LAX. To help you navigate your LAX arrival seamlessly, here’s our guide to planning your trip to the airport.

What Are The Factors That Determine How Early You Should Appear At The Airport?

Several factors determine the estimated amount of time a passenger will take to complete the airport check-in, security,  and other formalities.

One of the factors that determines the time a person has to spend at LAX is whether the passenger is taking a domestic or international flight. For an international flight, immigration and customs formalities may have to be completed, and this will take longer than a domestic flight.

If the passenger has received a weather alert, it is advisable to reach the airport early and check if the flight is delayed or canceled. Similarly, construction work at the airport or on the route to the airport can increase the time it takes to complete all the formalities.

It is possible to check a live map of LAX online. If in doubt it is better to arrive at the airport slightly earlier than planned. Compared to missing a flight and losing money, it is better to come early and spend some more time at the airport.
